OURLIVES COLLECTIVE

Welcome.
The door
is open.

A space for real stories.
Real voices. Real connection.

We’re beginning with a simple belief: the people who live a story should help shape what happens next.

An emerging collective. Come as you are.

01 / WHY OURLIVES

We are more than data.
We are stories.

The people closest to an issue carry knowledge that a report alone can’t hold.

OurLives Collective is an emerging space for that knowledge: the everyday stories, difficult questions and possibilities that come from lived experience.

We’re exploring how storytelling can support shared understanding and give communities more say in what happens next. The starting point is listening. The direction should be shaped together.

02 / HOW IT WORKS

Listen carefully.
Move together.

This is the approach we’re working towards. We’ll start small, learn with people and let communities help shape the process.

01

Make room for stories

Begin with what people choose to share, in their own words and at their own pace. Listening is a way to participate, too.

02

Find meaning together

Explore what connects different experiences. Check interpretations with the people behind them, and leave room for disagreement.

03

Shape what comes next

Turn shared priorities into questions, proposals and dialogue. Communities should help decide what moves forward—and what doesn’t.

Consent runs through every step. Sharing a story should never mean agreeing to every future use.

03 / IDEAS TAKING SHAPE

From a story
to a shared possibility.

Two connected ideas within OurLives. Both are in development, and neither is a live platform yet.

THE STORY & CONSENT LAYERIn development

OurVoice

Your story.
Your terms.

OurVoice is being developed as a home for stories and the choices that surround them: who can see a story, how it can be used and when permission needs to be revisited.

  • Clear, specific consent before use
  • Community guidance on access and ownership
  • Ways to review choices and request withdrawal

A working prototype is being tested locally using invented stories, including private drafts and PDF, Word and original-file downloads. Participant access and story submissions are not open. Consent and community guidance remain part of the work ahead.

THE PROPOSAL & DIALOGUE LAYERIn development

VoxRoot

Shared themes.
Possible next steps.

VoxRoot explores how themes that communities recognise in their stories might become proposals and conversations with the people making decisions.

  • Meaning checked with the community
  • Space for different and dissenting views
  • Proposals shaped with the people affected

A theme is an invitation to dialogue, not proof that everyone agrees. No proposal-making service is live yet.

04 / ABOUT & VALUES

What we hold close.

OurLives is taking shape as a collective, not a finished answer. These commitments are the starting point for how we want to work—and what we should be accountable for.

Where we are today — 22 October 2026. OurLives is currently founder-led by Marcus. Shared governance is a commitment to develop with the people who participate; it is not established yet.

We have adopted a commitment to open development, meaningful participation and shared governance. Public foundations are being prepared before code release. The software repository remains private while licensing and publication reviews are completed.

This public information website is separate from the experimental OurVoice application.

Decisions with, not for

People affected by a decision should have a meaningful role in shaping it, from the first question onwards.

Consent is ongoing

Permission should be understandable, specific and revisited when the purpose changes. A yes today is not a yes to everything.

Community ownership

Communities should help set the terms of how their knowledge is held, interpreted and used, and who benefits.

Cultural safety

Let people and communities define what respectful participation requires. Make room for cultural protocols, boundaries and different ways of sharing.

Non-extractive design

Don’t ask for stories and disappear. Agree on purpose, recognise people’s contribution and return something useful to the community.

Lived experience matters

Value the knowledge people carry through their own lives. No one should need professional language to be taken seriously.

Our lives.
Our stories.
Our say.

GROWING TOGETHER

05 / COMMUNITY & STORYTELLING

Start where
life happens.

Around a table. Along a street.
In a story someone chooses to tell.

There is room here for local storytelling and community-led work within OurLives Collective.

We’ll share work here when the people involved are ready, the context is clear and permission is in place.

For now, this is an invitation to shape that space together.

06 / COMMUNITY & JOIN

There’s room
for you here.

You don’t need a polished story.
You can begin with a question.

Whether you bring lived experience, community connections or a willingness to listen, a good first step is a conversation with people you trust.

A FEW WAYS TO BEGIN

Bring a lived experience

What do you wish people making decisions understood about everyday life in your community?

Gather a small conversation

What would a respectful space for listening look like for the people you know?

Help shape the collective

What would make an initiative like OurLives useful, trustworthy and worth your time?

We’re at the beginning. Direct sign-ups and story collection are not open yet. General feedback is now welcome by email. You do not need a GitHub account or to share a personal story to offer feedback. This guide is a starting point for your own conversations; it does not send anything to OurLives. Please don’t share someone else’s story without their permission.
